Self Tapping Inserts
Self-tapping insert nuts provide a strong, permanent thread for wood and wood based sheet materials. To install these insert nuts, simply screw the self-tapping body into the base material. The unique external thread ensures positive locking and offers strong resistance against pullout due to torsion or vibration. The insert nuts incorporate a flange, which prevents splitting of covered surfaces and driving the insert nut in too far.
Cross Nut/Barrel Nut
Here's an easy way to put steel threads into wood and have the greatest amount of pullout resistance of all the threaded insert types. Simply drill a hole to fit the barrel size, than hammer in the locking prongs until the top of the tee nut is flush with the surface. Can also be set flush in a counter bore.
